Research
As a professor, I researched the causes and control of violence against civilians during wartime, the methodological challenges associated with quantitative research on violence, and quantitative research ethics. More detailed information is available in my CV (updated summer 2022) or my Google Scholar profile. Folks who want to see how the sausage gets made can check out my (incomplete) GitHub repositories. Also available: information about my book, The Commander's Dilemma (Cornell UP, 2018).
At Code for America, I led our multidisciplinary Centralized Research effort in 2023, focusing on benefits use among children affected by a parent's incarceration. I also created impact estimates for CfA interventions in Maryland, Illinois, and Louisiana, and investigated connections between housing insecurity and benefits churn.
